Note from the Editor:

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here, both here in Luther and that you’re here with us on the pages of the new 59051 Luther Community Magainze.

59051 was the zip code when Luther had a post office of its own. That establishment closed along with many others. At one point we boasted two grocers, two bars, a gas station, a blacksmith shop, a dancehall, and a jail. We’ll learn more about these early businesses, what life was like in Luther, and the characters who lived here in subsequent issues.

If you’ve been here long, you either remember or have heard stories about when the school served as a lively community center, hosting regaling neighbors late into the night. The 59051 Magazine exists to reinvigorate a sense of community in our little valley and support the last rural schoolhouse in Carbon County.
